Photo Section

The WSOR acknowledges and supports rail photographers and their efforts to document the WSOR, its operations, and equipment. As such WSOR solicits photos for use on our website, for periodical photo contests, and for submission for our annual company calendar. Please see our Submissions Guidelines page for more information on requirements. Information on latest contests plus our current needs for photos may be found below. As we are concerned with the public's safety, we do ask you follow a few simple guidelines:
  • Railroad property is private property. Please do not trespass without permission.
  • Trains can be expected on any track at any time, please look both ways before crossing tracks.
  • Only cross tracks at public grade crossings.
  • Please be considerate of train crews and keep a safe distance from approaching trains.

2011 Company Calendar
We are now accepting photo submissions for our next company calendar which will be for the year 2011. Generally, we prefer photos taken within the past two years. If your photo(s) are selected to appear in the calendar, you will receive a free calendar and be entered into our calendar photo contest. Contest winners receive cash prizes (see below) and/or items from the WSOR Company Store and other places. To see previous winners, check out the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 Calendar pages. The 2007, 2009, and 2010 Calendars are still available at our company store.

We will award $500.00 to the contributor who submits the best picture for the 2010 calendar. The runner-up will receive $250.00. All other contributors who have a photo selected for one of the twelve months will receive $100.00 for each published photo. WSOR president and CEO Bill Gardner will personally select the winners for the 2011 calendar.

When composing your photographs, keep in mind that the calendar’s aspect ratio of 11” x 13” is rather square. Typically a fullframe camera image must be cropped on one side or both to fit on the printed page fullbleed (filling the page to paper’s edge). Keep your subject centered and leave a bit of room on the sides for cropping. Be sure to include information about each image such as location, date, and train symbol. Photos may be submitted at any time, but the deadline for the 2011 Calendar Contest is August 1, 2010. Contributors will be limited to ten photographs submitted per person. Plan now for 2011, WSOR’s 30th Anniversary!

Locomotive Roster photos
We are seeking roster photos of current WSOR locomotives for our Roster page. Submissions should be at least 1000 pixels wide, and can be emailed to the webmaster. See our Submissions Guidelines page for further details on requirements.

Website Photos
We're always looking for new images for our website. Every week we will feature a new photo on our homepage, selected from submitted photos. We also accept photos for the Wallpaper Download page. Requirements for submission are on the Submission Page.
