Paint Shop Services
The Wisconsin & Southern Paint Shop Facility was built in 1994 and is located in Horicon, WI. At this state-of-the-art facility, we do refinishing of locomotive cabs, engine compartments, and car bodies, along with refinishing all types of freight cars, with minimum delay and cost to you.
The work consists of all preparation, including cosmetic repairs to cars before painting, sandblasting, final cleaning, priming, finish painting, and lettering. We can complete ten locomotives per month.
We have completed work for many railroads, including WSOR, IC&E, NS, BNSF, UP, CSSB, and KCS. We have also done work on many freight cars for WSOR, CPR, and Railbox. Our shop can also paint miscellaneous equipment such as MOW cranes and equipment, trucks, and cranes. We also have done specialized paint work on passenger cars and locomotives. The Process
Here is an outline of the repainting process, from beginning to completion.
- Equipment is power washed/steam cleaned to degrease all surfaces, particularly locomotive engine rooms and under the frame.
- Sandblast carbody after masking glass windows.
- Priming is done with alkyd or epoxy primer.
- If job is multi-color, after first coat, masking is done to give the proper paint scheme.
- With Electro-static capabilities, the climate controlled paint room allows for year-round service to apply DTM Alkyds to Epoxy and Urethane finishes.
- Creating crisp lines, standard AAR Stenciling is applied with either vinyl or paint mask and can be used on customized logos.
